Fintech Innovation has always been a hot topic. With the increase of new disruptive technology, the finance industry will evolve and flourish in the years to come. Take for instance, the development of the current 5G technology will evolve mobile payment to become safer and more convenient. Fintech innovation would promote the progress of the financial industry and trigger a chain reaction that will affect all aspects in our life. On 13th June, XNode held a special conference on Fintech Innovation Leading to Cross-Industry Changes at CES Asia 2019 (Asia Consumer Electronics Exhibition). Sitting in a windowed corner of a Shanghai office, Russian national Evgenii Kozunov searches for the proper analogy to capture his experience developing his business in China. “It’s like, like expanding on the Mars for Western company,” he says in English, a grin spreading across his face. “Because everything, just everything different.” Kozunov, chief business development officer at a Moscow-based enterprise that provides online tutoring for English-language learners, says his company decided to open a branch in Shanghai last year to tap into the country’s rapidly growing education market. But when that startup, named Skyeng, garnered only a handful of new customers from its early promotional campaigns, Kozunov realized that the advertising and entrepreneurial skills he had picked up overseas may not apply to the Chinese context.

On the morning of May 24, the first meeting of the Singapore-Shanghai Comprehensive Cooperation Council (SSCCC) was held in Shanghai. The launch of the SSCCC on Friday was graced by its Co-Chairmen, Singapore Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Heng Swee Keat, and Mayor of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government Ying Yong. During the meeting, Shanghai and Singapore signed five Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) among government agencies, arbitration institutions, financial institutions, and enterprises. Among them, XNode and Enterprise Singapore signed a Memorandum of Understanding to stimulate the China-Singapore startup and innovation ecosystem.

As head of innovation for the Shanghai-based XNode powered by HighTechXL, Luuk Eliëns has devoted the past two years to helping to build scalable tech companies in China. Speaking at the recent Beyond TechHighTechXL showcase at the High Tech Campus Eindhoven, Eliëns told the audience: “China is the new frontier of innovation. Not next week, not tomorrow, but today”. Explaining that Eindhoven is generating technology that China would like to make use of, he argued that this innovative Dutch city is in a prime position to collaborate with the Asian giant from a position of strength – provided that it takes smart precautions to protect its technology.

On 23rd-24th March 2019, Hitachi Fintech & Blockchain Hackathon initiated by Hitachi and co-organized by ConsenSys and Couger has been successfully concluded in Shanghai. After 36 hours of continuous development, a total of 15 participating teams submitted their projects, covering the challenges of information sharing, KYC rules, smart payments, smart city and supply chain finance, etc. The teams used blockchain technology and decentralization concepts, as well as incorporated unique innovative ideas into their projects.

Another year has passed by and we are entering the fifth year of XNode. Looking back at our previous three year-end summaries, we seem to be talking more about dreams instead of the real business world. Now I think it’s time to have a heart-to-heart talk with our team, customers and partners, sharing in sincerity what have done well and what are the lessons. Through our self-reflection at the end of the year, I hope that each of us can understand the meaning of this adventure we’ve been on and will continue on in the future.

Shanghai, Nov 8, 2018 - AEYE-GO, a Chinese technology company developing intelligent checkout system based on AI technology, announced that they had received a capital investment from Sodexo Ventures, a strategic venture capital fund of Sodexo, after its 3-month acceleration by XNode. The parties will work together to further develop the innovative application for catering’s services and to improve the service quality by AI image recognition technology. Sodexo Ventures was launched in 2016 seeking new sources of future growth through investment in innovative startups.
