Overview

Nowadays, the interest from the largest global companies to understand China's innovation landscape is increasing exponentially. Scania Group, a major Swedish manufacturer and service provider of commercial vehicles, is no exception. Since last year, XNode has been working with Scania, helping the Digital Business Lab learn how to drive innovation and deliver different projects faster. This time, XNode was excited to co-host a Bootcamp with Le Wagon for Scania’s Digital Business Lab and R&D Innovation Center.

From October 22nd to 26th, XNode teamed up with Le Wagon and co-created a 5-day Scania Innovation & Entrepreneurship Bootcamp. This Bootcamp aimed to empower Scania's in-house innovators to (1) refine their innovative ideas, (2) validate their proposition, and (3) develop an interactive prototype, through a series of tailor-made workshops that focused on ideation, programming, and pitching.

Looking Back

Through 5 days of intensive learning and prototyping, this Bootcamp inspired Scania innovators to get out of their comfort zone and start anew with a beginner's mind. The workshops co-developed by XNode and Le Wagon, allowed the Scania teams to hone their empathy skills and equip with the right tools and methodologies to create meaningful Proof of Concepts that can strengthen and diversify Scania's operations in China.

From Solution Generation to Interactive Prototyping

On the first two days of the Bootcamp, with XNode, the two teams from Scania's Digital Business Lab and R&D Innovation Center, defined the challenge scope and generated the solutions from the user's perspective. They also strengthened their pitching skills and practiced presenting their innovative solutions to key stakeholders. During the following days, with Le Wagon, the two teams did a deeper dive into software, and converted their business solutions into mobile prototypes using Whimsical and Figma.

Striving for Excellence

On the Demo Day, both teams from Scania finalized their pitching decks and interactive product demos. They successfully pitched their ventures to a judging panel called in remotely from Scania's headquarter in Sweden. Mr. Luuk Eliens, the Chief Commercial Officer at XNode, delivered the opening speech for the final pitching session, announced the winner, and presented the awards to each Bootcamp participant.

Result and Prospects

Just within these five days, working alongside XNode and Le Wagon, the Scania teams turned their ideas into final prototype demos. Through a structured sprint of ideation, pitching, and programming, Scania innovators experienced the core intrapreneurship process of co-creation and co-development. Looking forward, this Scania Bootcamp goes far beyond prototyping and pitching. This is a new starting point for both teams to bring creativity to the table and explore the strategic significance that will make Scania's innovation agenda thrive.
